Housing

Host Family Program

Oaxaca has a relatively young population with a lot of students, whose families are willing to participate in our Host Family Program opening their homes to foreign students.  Immerse yourself in the Mexican life-style and language when you share a home with a local family.  Discover the warmth and charm of their family, experience Mexican customs and authentic cuisine and practice Spanish language skills on a daily basis in a natural and spontaneous environment.

The Host Family program also stimulates integration in and understanding of Mexican culture and traditions.  Students can get close relationships with their host family and keep contact long after returning back to their home countries.

Depending on student’s preferences, the International Relations Department chooses the most adequate home to make his stay as pleasant as possible. ggHost families offer students two meals a day (breakfast and dinner) and a separate or a shared room with another international student.  Sheets are provided.  Please bring your own towels and toiletries.  You’ll also receive your own house key so that you may come and go without disturbing your host family.

Before you arrive in Oaxaca, you’ll be told who your family will be so that you can contact them prior to your arrival.  Your stay begins in the arrival week (+/-15th of July) until the day after you complete your final exams (15th of August)

Youth Hostel

Students who prefer to stay on their own, can opt for staying in a beautiful youth hostel. There, you will share a room with other participants of the summer project. You receive breakfast every day. For lunch, you'll be together with all the other students of the summer project, in a restaurant near campus. Dinner is not included (approx. 45 pesos or 3,5 euros per meal). The youth hostel is located in the magnificent city center of Oaxaca, close to the colonial cathedral and the huge Museum of Cultures. Reservations in the youth hostel should be made before April 30th. For more details, please contact the International Relations Office. There is an extra cost of 280 euros for this option.
